Tvorba mikrobiálních biofilmů a následný biofouling představují vážný problém zejména v medicíně a průmyslu. Biofoulingu je obtížné předejít a způsobuje značné škody, v oblasti průmyslu především ve filtračních zařízeních. The formation of microbial biofilms and resulting biofouling is a serious problem in many fields, mainly in medicine and industry. In the latter, biofouling is responsible for significant economic losses especially in filtration applications.
