Media Representation of the charity concept in Mladá fronta DNES and Právo

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je ukázat, jak je rámována agenda charity ve vybraných tištěných denících. Jakým způsobem je reprezentována agenda charity, je porovnáváno v denících Právo a Mladá fronta DNES (MfD) v letech 2004 a 2008. Vybrané deníky se vyznačují opozitními hodnotovými orientacemi, proto jsou vhodné pro můj výzkum. Za tímto účelem jsem použil dvě výzkumné metody: obsahovou analýzu a diskurzivní analýzu. V teoretické části jsem nastínil širší kontext od křesťanských kořenů charity až po současnost. Popsal jsem i koncept sekularizace a odklonu od tradičních církví, který charitu jako takovou velmi ovlivnil, protože ztratila svoji ideovou a často i mocenskou oporu. Proto jsem dále popsal i moderní koncepty charitativní činnosti jako je filantropie, společenská odpovědnost firem či sociální solidarita, které jsou současnými způsoby hledání nějaké stabilnější podoby charitativní činnosti. Posledním popsaným kontextem je hodnotová pravolevá polarita vybraných deníků. Tento teoretický úvod mi poskytl oporu pro hledání odpovědi na otázku, jak je rámována agenda charity v tištěných médiích. Ve své práci docházím k závěru, že způsob rámování agendy charity není ovlivněn editoriální ideologií zkoumaných deníků. Mezi zkoumanými obdobími došlo ke snížení rámování agendy charity jako katolické instituce.

Abstract:

This thesis is to show how the agenda of charity is framed in the selected newspapers while comparing agendas of charity represented in journal Pravo and Mladafronta DNES between years 2004 and 2008. The main research question is focused on how the agenda of charity is framed in print media. As these journals represent opposite value orientation, they were selected as suitable for the research. Both quantitative and qualitative research methods were used - content analysis and discourse analysis. In the theoretical part, firstly the broader context of charity´s Christian rootsis presented. The concept of secularization and deflection from traditional church is described as this very much influenced the charity resulting in loss of its ideological and power support. Therefore modern concepts of charitable activities such as philanthropy, corporate social responsibility and social solidarity are discussed as they seem to be the current methods used to find more stable ways of charity agenda. Then, the polarity of values of the selected journals is described. Analyses of collected date show that the framing of charity’s agenda is not influenced by different value ideology of selected newspapers. Also, in the period of 2004–2008, framing of the charity‘s agenda as the Catholic institution was decreasing.
