Starogermánská aliterace v anglické poezii 20. století

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je sledovat vliv starogermánského aliteračního verše na anglickou poezii dvacátého století, přičemž hlavní pozornost je věnována užití staroanglické verze aliteračního metra. Práce nabízí analýzy ukázek z jednotlivých básní, porovnání množství vlivu na jednotlivá umělecká díla, stejně jako porovnání užití aliteračního verše ve středověku a ve dvacátém století. Teoretická část práce vysvětluje pravidla metra staroanglického, staroseverského a staroněmeckého, a osvětluje jejich kulturně-historické pozadí. Analytická část se poté zaměřuje na básníky dvacátého století, na jejich básně, a na spojitosti s básněmi jejich předků.

Abstract:

The aim of this diploma thesis is to trace the influence of the ancient Germanic alliterative verse on English poetry of the 20th century, with a special attention to the use of Old English version of the alliterative metre. The thesis offers analyses of excerpts of selected poems, a comparison of the amount of influence on individual works of art, as well as a comparison of the use of the verse in the Middle Ages and in the 20th century. The theoretical part of the thesis explains the rules of the Old English, Old Norse, and Old German types of the metre, as well as presents their cultural-historical backgrounds. The analytical part then focuses on the 20th century poets, their poems, and the connection with the poems of their ancestors.
