Stress-Coping Strategies of Early Childhood Educators in Their Professional Practice

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou stresu u učitelek mateřských škol a způsoby, jakými tyto pracovnice stres zvládají. Cílem práce je zjistit, jaké strategie zvládání stresu učitelky mateřských škol využívají a jaké situace v jejich profesním životě jsou pro ně nejvíce zatěžující. Teoretická část práce se věnuje vymezení pojmu stres, jeho příčinám a projevům, dále se zaměřuje na pracovní stres v pedagogické profesi a na strategie zvládání stresu. Pozornost je věnována také specifikům práce učitelky v mateřské škole a faktorům, které mohou vznik stresu v této profesi ovlivňovat. Praktická část práce je založena na kvantitativním výzkumu realizovaném pomocí standardizovaného dotazníku SVF 78, který zjišťuje strategie zvládání stresu. Výzkum byl doplněn otevřenými otázkami, jejichž cílem bylo zachytit konkrétní situace, ve kterých učitelky stres prožívají, a způsoby, jakými na tyto situace reagují. Výsledky výzkumu ukazují, že učitelky mateřských škol využívají různé strategie zvládání stresu, přičemž mezi nejčastější patří snaha o aktivní řešení problémů, hledání sociální opory a snaha o regulaci vlastních emocí. Z otevřených odpovědí zároveň vyplynulo, že stres je často spojen nejen s pracovními požadavky, ale také s nedostatkem času, administrativní zátěží či náročnou komunikací s rodiči.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the issue of stress among kindergarten teachers and the strategies they use to cope with it. The aim of the thesis is to identify which stress coping strategies kindergarten teachers use and which situations in their professional lives are perceived as the most stressful. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on the definition of stress, its causes and manifestations. It also describes work-related stress in the teaching profession and different coping strategies. Attention is also given to the specifics of the kindergarten teacher profession and to factors that may contribute to the emergence of stress in this field. The practical part of the thesis is based on quantitative research conducted using the standardized questionnaire SVF 78, which focuses on stress coping strategies. The research was complemented by open-ended questions aimed at capturing specific situations in which teachers experience stress and the ways they respond to these situations. The results of the research show that kindergarten teachers use various coping strategies, most commonly active problem solving, seeking social support, and regulating their own emotions. The open-ended responses also revealed that stress is often related not only to work demands but also to lack of time, administrative workload and demanding communication with parents.
