Gifts as a significant components of consuption

Abstract:

Práce pojednává o daru a snaží se o tomto fenoménu shromáždit a propojit informace z různých oborů. Téma samotné je zajímavé jen z toho hlediska, že je rozporuplné. Na jednu stranu se společnost bez daru neobejde, je totiž důležitou součástí vazeb ve společnosti. A jak se dozvíme v této práci, blízkých vazeb v poslední době ubývá, a to může být velkým problémem dnešní doby. Na druhou stranu se nynější obdarování stalo neudržitelných konzumem, který má závažné důsledky na přírodní prostředí a v mnoha případech vede i k problémům a nepříjemným pocitům u lidí. Nemalé procento lidí je schopno se kvůli dárkům zadlužit, avšak jak se lze dočíst v této práci, ne vždy je finanční hodnota adekvátní k té citové a naopak někdy může přehnané obdarování uškodit. V práci se ukáže, že není potřebné něco tak důležitého a radostného jako je dar rušit, je však možné darování transformovat.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the issue of gift-giving and endeavours to gather and link information pertaining to this phenomenon from different disciplines. The theme itself is interesting only in the sense that it is contradictory. On the one hand, society cannot function without gifts; it is an important part of relationships in society. And as we learn in this thesis, the number of close ties in recent years has been on the decline and it may be one of the major problems of our time. On the other hand, present-day gift-giving has turned into unsustainable consumerism and, moreover, has had serious consequences on the environment and in many cases leads to problems and causes discomfort in people. A considerable percentage of people are willing to go into debt due to gift-giving even though, as you can read in this thesis, the financial value of the gifts do not adequately match their emotional value and, conversely, excessive gift-giving can cause harm. This thesis shows that it is not necessary to abolish something that is such an important and pleasing part of our lives as is gift-giving, but that it is possible to transform the phenomenon of gift-giving in some way.
