Julius Caesar - Shakespeare's Interpretation of the Historic Charakter

Abstract:

Předložená diplomová práce je reflexí Shakespearovy interpretace historické osobnosti Gaia Julia Caesara. V práci byl důraz kladen především na Shakespearovo zobrazení postavy Julia Caesara a na následnou analýzu jeho hry. Cílem této práce tedy bylo poskytnutí komplexního pohledu na Shakespearovu nepříliš interpretovanou hru Julius Caesar. Práce je odborným vhledem do problematiky Shakespearovy interpertace historických událostí a postav zobrazených ve hře Julius Caesar, doplněným o komparaci s původním historickým pramenen, Plutarchovými Životopisy slavných Řeků a Římanů. Analýza hry může být pojímána jako východisko pro další odborná zkoumání, neboť otevírá další možnosti a pokládá další otázky.

Abstract:

The Diploma Thesis concerns a reflection of the interpretation of the historic character of Gaius Julius Caesar. The work emphasis is placed mostly on Shakespeare´s picture of the character of Julius Caesar and a subsequent analysis of the play. The target of the thesis is to provide a comprehensive view of Shakespeare´s moderately interpreted play Julius Caesar. The thesis provides a special insight into the matter of Shakespeare´s interpretation of historical events and characters portrayed in his play Julius Caesar, supplemented with a confrontation with original historical source, Plutarch´s Live of the Most Noble Greacians and Romans. The play analysis could be considered as a basis for further professional research as it opens alternatives and asks additional questions.
