Principles of clothing of Czech and Slovak metal subculture in the period of birth of Czechoslovak metal

Abstract:

Práce Principy odívaní české a slovenské metalové subkultury v období zrodu československého metalu si vytkla za cíl obsáhnout a přiblížit styl odívání vybraných kapel české a slovenské metalové scény osmdesátých a devadesátých let dvacátého století. Nejprve kapely rozdělíme dle žánru metalu, jenž hrají a následně popíšeme styl odívání jednotlivých seskupení. Porovnáme image kapel odlišných metalových žánrů navzájem, ale také kapel stejného žánru a pokusíme se naleznout a vyzdvihnout jejich vizuální specifika. Cílem práce je popsat metalové kostýmy československých kapel v kontextu šedi totalitního režimu, jenž nepřál nejen tomuto hudebnímu stylu, ale ani originalitě, natož výstřednosti jednotlivce.

Abstract:

The work Principles of clothing of Czech and Slovak metal subculture in the period of birth of Czechoslovak metal has as its aim to include the style of clothing of selected music bands of Czech and Slovak metal scene of the eighties and nineties of the twentieth century. At first we will divide bands according to the genre of metal and then we will describe the style of clothing and image of individual bands. We will compare the clothing of the bands of different metal genres to each other, but we will compare bands of the same style, too. We will try to find and highlight the visual specifics of each genre; and eventually visual specifics of the bands. The aim of this work is to describe the costumes of Czechoslovak metal bands in the context of the era of the totalitarian regime, which not only did not want this music style, but also originality and eccentricity of the individuals themselves.
