Urban Parks and Biodiversity: Microecological Parameters Affecting Diversity of Invertebrates in Urban Parks

Abstract:

Cílem práce bylo zjištění parametrů ovlivňujících diverzitu městských parků. Dále pomocí dotazníků mířených na správce městských parků zjistit, co za aktivity ve směru podpory biodiverzity provádí na území městských parků v Brně a závěry porovnat s již publikovanými zkušenostmi. Práce byla zpracována formou literární rešerše a samotný výzkum pomocí osobních rozhovorů s danými správci veřejné zeleně. Byly vybrány tři městské části: Brno-Střed, Brno-Sever a Brno-Nový Lískovec a dvě příspěvkové organizace: Veřejná zeleň města Brna a SZVP Brno-Židenice. Rozhovory probíhaly buďto na sídlech úřadů daných městských části a organizací či přímo ve spravovaných parcích. Odpovědi byly zaznamenávány, následně zpracovány a porovnány s publikovanými studii. Nejdůležitějším faktorem městských parků se ukázaly staré a mohutné stromy, které biodiverzitu, hlavně druhovou bohatost bezobratlých, ovlivňovaly nejvíce, a poskytovaly jim ideální prostředí imitující divokou přírodu v urbanizovaném prostředí. Většina živočišných druhů je ze svých původních stanovišť vytlačována, tudíž je podpora diverzity v městském prostřední opodstatněná a žádoucí. Proto bychom měli tyto změny co nejvíce ulehčit živočichům i rostlinám, jelikož fauna a flora dohromady vytváří příjemné a prospěšné prostředí hlavně pro nás.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis was to determinate variables influencing diversity in urban parks. Thanks to city-park-manager oriented questionnaires I can find out, which activities are supporting biodiversity in the areas of urban parks in Brno and compare conclusions with already published experiences. This is a literary research thesis and the investigation is done by personal interviews with certain green public administrators. There were three urban areas chosen: Brno-Centre, Brno-North & Brno-Novy Liskovec & two funding organzisations: Verejna zelen mesta Brna (Brno Public Green) and SZVP Brno-Zidenice. Interviews took place either in the relevant city office and organizations or right in managed parks. Answers were recorded, processed and compared with published studies. The most important factor of urban parks appeared to be old and large trees, which are influencing the biodiversity most, mainly species richness of invertebrates, and providing them ideal environment imitating wild nature in urban mediums. Most of the animal species are being dislodged from their natural and original habitats, so the support of diversity is very important and needed in urban areas. That is why we should provide help to animals and plants, because fauna & flora are creating pleasant and beneficial environment even for us.
