Foreign policy of Romania in the period 1955 - 1968: From conformity to autonomy

Abstract:

The work is devoted to foreign policy of Romania since the country's accession to the UN in 1955 to 1968. The Romanian foreign policy has undergone significant development, since conformity with the Soviet Union to a certain degree of autonomy.The change of the Romanian foreign policy is evident in the first half 60.rokoch, when Gheorghiu-Dej was in power. Autonomous foreign policy culminated in 1968 during the Prague Spring and the subsequent invasion to Czechoslovakia. Paper notes in particular the relationship to the Soviet Union, U.S., to a lesser extent with Western Europe and the Warsaw Pact member countries. Foreign policy is studied by analysis of romanian behavior in the UN (conformance / nonconformity with the Soviet Union), contracts concluded by Romania, policy statements and documents issued during the period. This work attempts to answer the following research questions: What is the manifestation of initial conformity with the Soviet Union? How did the presence of Soviet troops on Romanian territory influence the mutual relationship? Was the turning point in the Romanian foreign policypower caused by Ceausescu? How important was the Romanian nationalism in shaping foreign policy?

Práca sa venuje zahraničnej politike Rumunska od vstupu krajiny do OSN v roku 1955 po rok 1968. Rumunská zahraničná politika prešla značným vývojom, od konformity so Sovietskym zväzom až po určitý stupeň autonómie zahraničnej politiky Zmena rumunskej zahraničnej politiky je badateľná už v prvej polovici 60.rokoch, keď bol pri moci Gheorghiu-Dej. Autonómna zahraničná politika vrcholila v roku 1968 počas Pražskej jari a následnej invázie do Československa. Práca si všíma najmä vzťah k Sovietskemu zväzu, USA , v menšej miere ku krajinám západnej Európy a členským krajinám Varšavského paktu. Zahraničná politika je skúmaná analýzou správania Rumunska pri volení v OSN (konformita/nekonformita so Sovietskym zväzom), zmlúv, ktoré Rumunsko uzavrelo,politických prehlásení a vydaných dokumentov počas skúmaného obdobia. Práca sa pokúsi odpovedať na nasledujúce výzkumné otázky: V čom sa prejavovala počiatočná konformita so Sovietskym zväzom? Ako ovplyvnila prítomnosť sovietskych vojsk na rumunskom území vzájomné vzťahy? Súvisí obrat v zahraničnej politike Rumunska s nástupom Ceausesca k moci? Aký význam mal rumunský nacionalizmus pri formovaní zahraničnej politiky?
