Abstract:

Cílem této práce je poskytnout čtenáři přehled o historii filmového žánru zvaného western a o tom, jak se toto specifické odvětví kinematografie vyvíjelo v průběhu času od svého vzniku až do současnosti. Práce na začátku definuje westernový film za použití analýzy jeho různých charakteristických rysů. Následně se zaměřuje na historii tohoto žánru a představuje jednotlivé epochy westernového filmu. Ve své poslední části se esej blíže zabývá vývojem reprezentace a ztvárnění žen a indiánů. Práce jako celek se zaměřuje především na analýzu westernu jako filmového žánru, jeho historii a vývoj v čase.

Abstract:

This thesis aims to provide the reader with a comprehensive history of the Western movie genre and how this particular branch of cinema evolved over time from its inception to the modern age. The thesis opens by defining what the Western movie genre is by analysing its various signature characteristics and tropes. It then delves into the history of the genre, presenting the various eras of the Western cinema. Finally, the essay looks closely at the evolution of representation and the portrayal of women and Native Americans. The main focus of the thesis is to analyse the Western film genre, its history and how it evolved with the flow of time.
