Analysis of the development of the position of women as mothers in the labour market in the Czech Republic from 2001 till 2021 with a focus on labour market flexibility

Abstract:

V diplomové práci je analyzován trh práce v České republice se zaměřením na ženy v roli matek a flexibilitu, která je důležitá nejen pro tuto specifickou skupinu. Na problematiku je v práci nahlíženo jako na celek zahrnující jak poptávkovou, tak nabídkovou stranu trhu práce. Teoretická část je zaměřena na trh práce z ekonomického pohledu a popisuje teorii preferencí, definuje lidský kapitál a jeho aktuální trendy. Zároveň také zohledňuje postavení žen na trhu práce včetně historického vývoje, demografických souvislostí a hodnot postmoderní společnosti. V neposlední řadě teoretická část definuje problematiku flexibility a její důležitost v rámci trhu práce. Praktická část zahrnuje analýzu dat, která zobrazuje vývoj trhu práce a definuje problémy spočívající především v nedostatečné kapacitě zařízení poskytujících péči o malé děti a další problémové faktory, které ženám návrat do pracovního procesu neusnadňují. Součástí praktické části je také dotazníkové šetření, které se zabývá pohledem žen v roli matek na trh práce a jeho flexibilitu. Výsledky šetření zároveň potvrzují problémy plynoucí z analýzy statistických dat. Dotazník ověřuje také hypotézu předpokládající nepřímou úměru mezi délkou rodičovské dovolené a stupněm dosaženého vzdělání. Pro komplexnost je praktická část doplněna o rozhovory s vybranými zaměstnavateli s cílem definovat nabídku konkrétních benefitů pro ženy s malými dětmi. Rozhovory jsou vedeny také s neziskovými organizacemi, které se touto problematikou zabývají a přispívají tak k řešení problémů spojených s návratem žen na trh práce. Klíčová je však spolupráce firem a státu, která umožní ženám nalezení rovnováhy mezi rodinným a pracovním životem.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the analysis of the labor market in the Czech Republic focusing especially on women in the role of mother and flexibility, which is essential not only for this particular specific group. This issue is viewed in the thesis as a whole since it covers both the demand side and the supply side of the labor market. Theoretical part of the thesis minutely describes the labor market from the economical point of view and takes into account the theory of preferences, defines human capital and its current trends. Moreover, it takes into account the position of women on the labor market, including historical development, demographic contexts and values of postmodern society. Last but not least, the theoretical part describes the issue of flexibility and its importance within the labor market. The practical part of this thesis executes the data analysis which views the development of the labor market and defines the problems mainly consisting in the insufficient capacity of facilities providing care for young children and other problematic factors that impede women returning to the labor market. The integral part of the thesis contains questionnaire survey, which deals with the view of women in the role of mothers on the labor market and its flexibility. Furthermore, the results of the survey confirm the problems arising from the analysis of statistical data and verifies the hypothesis assuming an inverse relationship between the length of parental leave and the level of education achieved. For the sake of complexity, the practical part is supplemented by interviews with selected employers with the aim of defining the offer of specific benefits for women with small children. Interviews are also conducted with non-profit organizations that deal with this issue and thus contribute to solving problems associated with the return of women to the labor market. However, cooperation between companies and the state is crucial and enables women to find a balance between personal and work life.
