Alternative method of motivating girls from Educational Institution to their vocational development: Workshop with a simulation game

Abstract:

Práce se věnuje problematice připravenosti dívek z výchovného ústavu na vstup do dospělosti, především pak jejich motivací k této přípravě. Teoretická část se zaměřuje na to, jak složité je období dospívání, k jakým změnám dochází u adolescentů a o kolik těžší je vstup do dospělosti pro děti z výchovných ústavů. Stručně též popisuje typy zařízení pro výkon ústavní a ochranné výchovy a osobnost dětí, které v nich žijí. Jako jeden ze zásadních problémů pak tato práce vymezuje motivaci dětí v ústavní výchově k profesní přípravě, k přípravě na samostatný život a zároveň se zabývá alternativní možností, jak jejich motivaci zvýšit, a to využití dramatické výchovy. Empirická část obsahuje podrobnou přípravu a záznam průběhu čtyřdenního pobytu pro pět dívek z výchovného ústavu, který proběhl ve dnech 12. – 15. 5. 2011. V rekreačním zařízení v jižních Čechách byla pro děti simulována situace opuštění výchovného ústavu a zařazení se do pracovního procesu. Zároveň zde probíhaly různé dramatické hry a cvičení rozvíjející osobnost účastníků. Pobyt měl otestovat předpoklad, že v prostředí rekreačního zařízení a s využitím tvořivé dramatiky budou děti lépe nastavené k příjmu potřebných informací. Tento předpoklad byl ověřen testovými úlohami, jež dívky vyplnily před pobytem a následně znovu měsíc po něm. Též samotné hodnocení pobytu dětmi i zúčastněnými vychovateli bylo velmi pozitivní. Do budoucna by bylo vhodné zařadit pobyt tohoto typu do většího komplexu různých aktivit zaměřených na rozvoj sebevědomí a zodpovědnosti dětí a jejich osamostatnění se od výchovné instituce.

Abstract:

This thesis analyses the issue of preparedness of girls from juvenile homes for adult life, with special focus on their motivation to achieve a good level of such preparedness. The theoretical part of the work discusses the complexities of adolescence, changes in adolescents, and the extent to which difficulties in entering adult life are greater in children that grew up in juvenile homes compared to their peers living in families. It also briefly describes the types of institutional and protective care facilities and personalities of children living in them. The thesis defines one of the essential issues, which is the motivation of children in institutional care for vocational training and preparing for independent living, and also discusses different alternatives of increasing their motivation specifically through drama teaching. The empiric part contains a detailed description of the preparations and course of a four-day stay organized for five girls from a juvenile home that took place between May 12 and 15, 2011. In a recreational facility in Southern Bohemia, a situation was modeled for the children that imitated their leaving the juvenile home and engagement in employment activities. Furthermore, various dramatic games and exercises developing the attendees’ personalities were organized. This event was to test the presumption that in the environment of a recreational facility and with the use of creative dynamics, children will be prepared to a greater extent to receive information they needed. This presumption was verified through test exercises which the girls filled in before the event and subsequently, one month after it. Feedback from the children and their governors attending concerning the event was very positive, too. For the future, it would be very convenient if such events could be organized as part of a series of activities focused on development of self-esteem and responsibility in children and their gaining of independence from the institutions.
