Carl Menger - realism and economic theory

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá filosofickým a filosoficko-vědním pojetím vztahu teorie a reality v díle C. Mengera s ohledem na soudobý realismus ve filosofii vědy. Východiskem práce je rozlišení dvou směrů ve filosofii a filosofii vědy, esencialistického a empirického realismu, které se liší v ontologických názorech na povahu světa a v epistemologických názorech na způsob jeho poznávání. V hlavní části práce jsou identifikována Mengerova východiska v esencialistickém realismu a jejich jednotlivé ontologické a epistemologické aspekty. Je ukázáno, že Menger zastává reálně existující vrstvenou realitu a reálně působící kauzální síly. Po identifikování ontologických a epistemologických východisek se práce dále zabývá Mengerovým pojetím vědy a vědeckých zákonů. Ukazuji, že Menger ve svých úvahách o vědě řeší vztah abstraktní teorie a empirické reality s využitím typů. Typy jsou pro něj tím, co sjednocuje jeho ontologii a epistemologii. Práce se také zaměřuje na jeho dvě orientace teoretického výzkumu, realisticko-empirické a exaktní, a související pojetí vědeckých zákonů.

Abstract:

The work deals with the philosophical and philosophical-scientific conception of the relationship of theory and reality in the work of C. Menger with the regards for contemporary realism in philosophy of science. The starting point is the distinction between the two directions in the philosophy and philosophy of science, essentialist and empirical realism, which differ in the ontological opinion on the nature of the world and epistemological views on the manner of its cognition. The main part of the work identifies Mengerian background in essentialist realism and its ontological and epistemological aspects. It is shown that Menger considers existing stratified reality and real causal forces. After identifying the ontological and epistemological foundations, the work also deals with his conception of science and scientific laws. I show that Menger in his reflections on science is solving the relationship of abstract theory with empirical reality, using the types. Types are for him that, what unifies his ontology and epistemology. The work also concentrates on his two orientations of theoretical research, realistic-empirical and exact, and related conceptions of scientific laws.
