Ageism - the Development of Attitudes to the Elderly Depending on Age

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se věnuje problematice ageismu, konkrétně je zaměřena na věkovou diskriminaci vůči seniorům. Věnuje se postojům společnosti k seniorům a představě o ageismu. Ageismus je stále diskutovanějším tématem, což dokazuje i vyhlášení roku 2012 za ?Evropský rok aktivního stárnutí a mezigenerační solidarity?. S ageismem souvisí i problematika demografického stárnutí populace, která může být chápána jako určitá hrozba při stagnaci současných ageistických postojů. Stávající stav částečné izolovanosti seniorů a přetrvávání ?kultu mládí? se bude dotýkat stále větší části populace. Práce si tedy pokládá otázku, jak moc je výskyt ageistických postojů ve společnosti zjevný a závažný. Práce zkoumá a dokazuje vztahy mezi věkem, postojem k seniorům a přístupem společnosti ke starším lidem. Zabývá se otázkou předsudků a mýtů, které jsou často původci negativního postoje k seniorům. Diplomová práce poskytuje informace týkající se projevů ageismu v různých oblastech, mezi které je zařazena oblast zdravotnictví, zaměstnání, bydlení či důchodového zajištění. Výzkum odhaluje možné souvislosti ageismu s věkem respondentů, popřípadě dalšími proměnnými, které mohou postoj k seniorům ovlivňovat.

Abstract:

Thesis deals with the issue of ageism, specifically focuses on age discrimination against the elderly. It deals with the attitudes of the elderly and the concept of ageism. Ageism is still discussed topic, as evidenced by the announcement of 2012 as "European Year of Active Ageing and Intergenerational Solidarity." With the issue of ageism is also related to demographic aging of the population, which can be viewed as a threat to the current stagnation ageistic attitudes. The current status of partial isolation of seniors and the persistence of the "cult of youth" will affect a growing population. Study then raises the question of how much the incidence of attitudes in society ageistic attitudes obvious and substantial. The thesis explores and demonstrates the relationship between age and attitude toward the elderly and access of the elderly. It examines the myths and prejudices that are often the originators of negative attitudes towards seniors. Thesis provides information regarding the signs ageism in various areas, among which is included the health sector, employment, housing and retirement security. Research reveals a possible link ageism with the age of respondents, or other variables that may influence the attitude toward the elderly.
