Quality of life among parents of children with autism spectrum disorder: Stressful situations and protective factors

Abstract:

Tato práce se věnuje rodičům dětí s poruchou autistického spektra, kteří jsou jakožto primárně pečující osoby nejvíce zasaženi zátěží přinášenou péčí o takové dítě. Tato práce si klade za cíl zjistit, co považují rodiče za nejvíce zatěžující v rámci péče o dítě s poruchou autistického spektra a dále co jim pomáhá vše zvládat. V práci jsou využity jednak standardizované metody (Dotazník životní spokojenosti SWLS, Dotazník kvality života SQUALA, Dotazník strategií zvládání stresu SVF 78, Dotazník míry stresu Stress Profile, Dotazník nezdolnosti SOC-29), ale také otevřené otázky, které zajišťovaly odpovědi více subjektivní. Náš výzkum je tedy orientován na životní spokojenost a kvalitu života respondentů, na míru prožívaného stresu a strategie jeho zvládání a v neposlední řadě na sense of coherence (nezdolnost) A. Antonovského. V rámci analýzy dat jsme se mimo jiné zabývali především právě konstruktem nezdolnosti, u kterého jsme předpokládali, že bude kladně korelovat s životní spokojeností a kvalitou života, bude významným prediktorem zvládání zátěže a také výběru copingových strategií. Tyto hypotézy se nám ve výsledcích potvrdily a podpořily tak nemnohé výzkumy na toto téma. Také další zkoumané vztahy se zde potvrdily. Například ten, že vyšší kvalita života a životní spokojenost souvisí s nižší úrovní prožívaného stresu.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on parents of children with autism spectrum disorder. They are the main caregivers and the childcare is very stressful. The aim of this paper is to identify what parents consider the most burdensome and what helps them to manage it. We used standardized methods (Satisfaction with Life Scale SWLS, Subjective Quality of Life Analysis SQUALA, Coping strategies SVF 78, Stress Profile, Orientation to Life Questionnaire SOC-29) and open questions to obtain more subjective opinions. Our research is focused on satisfaction with life and quality of life, on level of experienced stress and coping strategies and on the Antonovsky‘s sense of coherence (resilience). We expected positive correlation between sense of coherence and satisfaction with life and quality of life too. Furthermore, we expected the sense of coherence is significant predictor of coping and selection of coping strategies too. These hypotheses were confirmed and our results support other researches on this topic. Another relationships were confirmed. For example that better quality of life and satisfaction with life is associated with lower levels of stress.
