The aim of this diploma thesis is to explore occurrence of conceptual metaphor in English academic texts. In the theoretical part I focus the definition on the cognitive approach in linguistics and also of conceptual metaphor including several subcategories.I further define academic text and mention some key characteristics that are important for the research. Cílem práce je prozkoumat výskyt konceptuální metafory v anglických akademických textech. V teoretické části se zaměřím na vymezení kognitivního přístupu v lingvistice a psychologii i na základě srovnání s přístupy jinými. V rámci kognitivní lingvistiky poté vymezím pojem konceptuální metafory (včetně příkladů) a její různá pojetí.
