The Chinese Room Argument – Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

Abstract:

Bakalářská diplomová práce Argument čínského pokoje – včera, dnes a zítra se zabývá tzv. argumentem čínského pokoje, který byl v 80. letech vnesen do problematiky umělé inteligence analytickým filosofem Johnem R. Searlem. Tato práce analyzuje a prověřuje platnost Searlova tvrzení, dle kterého je schopnost generovat správné odpovědi nedostatečná pro doložení skutečného porozumění otázky či úkolu. Pohled je upřen na jeho současné kritiky, zvláštní pozornost je následně věnována futuristickým prognózám odborníků nových médií.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis The Chinese Room Argument – Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow deals with theory of the chinese room argument, which was introduced in the 80's by the analytic philosopher John R. Searle. The thesis analyzes and verifies the validity of Searle's argument, according to which the ability to generate the correct answer is not sufficient for a real understanding. The view is also fixed on the contemporary criticisms, special attention is paid to the futuristic visions of experts on new media.
