The Impact of the First Oil Shock on the Motoring and the Automotive Industry in the United States of America

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou vlivu prvního ropného šoku na automobilismus a automobilový průmysl ve Spojených státech amerických. Teoretická část nejprve charakterizuje automobilismus a automobilový průmysl od konce první světové války do začátku ropné krize. Následuje deskripce samotné první ropné krize a jejich důsledků pro ekonomiku Spojených států amerických. V praktické části je nejvíce využita analýza a komparace dat o tržních podílech jednotlivých automobilek, spotřebě pohonných hmot a vlivu státních regulací na výrobce a následně na spotřebitele. Hlavním cílem této práce je zanalyzovat vliv prvního ropného šoku na americké spotřebitele vůči tuzemským automobilkám. Z výsledků analýz vyplývá, že první ropný šok výrazně ovlivnil spotřebitelské chování vůči americkým automobilkám, především v dlouhém období.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the impact of the first oil shock on motoring and the automotive industry in the United States of America. The theoretical part describes motoring and the automotive industry since the end of the First World War until the beginning of the oil crisis. Then follows an outline of the first oil crisis and its implications for the economy of the United States of America. The practical part analyzes and compares the data on market shares of individual car makers, consumption of fuel and the impact of state regulation on manufacturers and, subsequently, on consumers. The main objective of this thesis is to analyze the impact of the first oil shock on American consumers vis-a-vis domestic automakers. The results of the analyses show that the first oil shock significantly influenced consumer behavior towards domestic automakers, especially in the long run.
