Old Norse noun declension patterns

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem této diplomové práce je podat podrobný přehled deklinačních tříd staroseverských substantiv z diachronního i synchronního pohledu a najít příčiny odchylek od jejích hlavních paradigmat. První kapitola je věnována představení teorií a pojmů, které jsou zásadní pro tuto práci, také je zde prezentován fonologický systém staroseverštiny. Zbývající tři kapitoly jsou především zaměřeny na popis různých přístupů ke klasifikaci staroseverských substantiv a jejich vzájemné porovnání. Podstatná část druhé a třetí kapitoly je věnována přehledu užití diachronních a synchronních metod na skandinávské půdě a představení některých gramatik, které těchto přístupů využívají k popisu staroseverštiny.

Abstract:

The main purpose of this thesis is to deliver a comprehensive overview of Old Norse noun declensions.from both diachronic and synchronic point of view.and to find the cause of deviations from their main paradigms. The first chapter is dedicated to the presentation of essential theories and concepts; the phonological system of Old Norse is also presented there.The remaining chapters focus on the description of various approaches to the classificaton of Old Norse declensions and their mutual comparison. A substantial part of the second and third chapter is dedicated to an overview of the use of diachronic and synchronic methods in the scandinavian history of linguistics, including a presentation of some of the grammars which utilize these methods for the description of Old Norse.
