Stylized Facts of a Business Cycle

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce pojednává o stylizovaných faktech o hospodářském cyklu pozorovaných na nejnovějších datech. Teoretická část podává přehled základních pojmů a metod souvisejících s tématem a také souhrn dosavadních poznatků o stylizovaných faktech. V praktické části jsou aplikovány tři různé detrendovací metody na data vybraných makroekonomických veličin, pozorovaných v devatenácti evropských státech. Zkoumáme chování ekonomických proměnných v čase, jejich závislost na cyklu HDP i mezi sebou navzájem a také volatilitu.

Abstract:

The Bachelor’s thesis examines the stylized facts of a business cycle observed in the latest data. The overview of basic terms and methods, as well as the summary of existing findings, are described in the theoretical part. In the practical part, three different detrending methods are applied on the data of selected macroeconomic variables, observed in nineteen European countries. We study the behaviour of economic variables in time, their dependence on the cycle of GDP and on each other, and also their volatility.
