Exploring energy vulnerability from the bottom-up: Examining the lived experiences of energy vulnerable people in Palestine

Abstract:

V Palestině lidé zažívají různé reality po celé zemi kvůli existující abnormální politice, která ovlivňuje dostupnost energie a cenovou dostupnost. Což má na oplátku významnou roli při utváření kultury lidu obecně. Tato práce začíná konceptualizací „zranitelnosti vesmírné energie“ a aplikací tohoto termínu na dvě oddělená města: Tulkarem a Gazu. To, co činí obě města energeticky zranitelná, je existence silného vnějšího vlivu, nedostatek dodávek elektřiny – i když s různou závažností. Pro zkoumání životních zkušeností energeticky zranitelných lidí bylo v obou oblastech provedeno 18 polostrukturovaných rozhovorů. Navržený dotazník a analýza dat byly provedeny ve světle rámce Energy Cultures Framework (ECF). Zjištění vysvětlují existující témata v nucených praktikách, ovlivněné normy a aspirace a vnější vlivy.

Abstract:

In Palestine, people experience different realities across the country due to the existing abnormal politics that affects energy availability and affordability. Which in return has a significant role in shaping the people's culture in general. This thesis begins with conceptualizing "spatial energy vulnerability" and applying the term to two separated cities: Tulkarem and Gaza. What sets the two cities as energy vulnerable is the existence of a strong external influence, lack of electricity supply - although with different severity. To examine the lived experiences of energy-vulnerable people, 18 semi-structured interviews were carried out in both areas. The designed questionnaire and data analysis were done in light of the Energy Cultures Framework (ECF). Findings explain existing themes in forced practices, influenced norms and aspirations, and external influences.
