The mortal part of the soul in Plato's Timaeus

Abstract:

V dialogu Timaios se odhaluje Platónova filosofie o smrtelné části duše člověka a její důležitosti pro pochopení podstaty lidského života. Smrtelná část duše je součástí konceptu Platónovy triády duše a je činitelem, který má vliv na mnoho aspektů lidského jednání a vědomí. V tomto dialogu je smrtelná duše člověka představena jako mozaika, která se skládá z různých částí. Platón považuje smrtelnou část duše za část nižší, jež je však nezbytná pro fungování těla a následně lidského života, zatímco na nesmrtelnou část Platón nahlíží jako na vyšší, vznešenější aspekt duše. Podle Timaia je nesmrtelná duše správcem a průvodcem smrtelné duše. Smrtelná složka je klíčem k pochopení toho, jak lidský život funguje. Je nezbytnou podmínkou pro to, abychom mohli vést řádný a pravdivý život, je tedy nepostradatelným doplňkem nesmrtelné části duše. Je jakýmsi prostředníkem mezi tělem a vyšší částí duše, která nám poskytuje schopnosti myšlení a rozhodování. V této práci se budu snažit najít odpověď otázku, která v Platónově Timaiu nikdy nebyla zodpovězena, a to, čím je vlastně ona smrtelná část duše.

Abstract:

In the dialogue Timaeus, Plato's philosophy about the mortal part of the human soul and its importance for understanding the essence of human life is revealed. The mortal part of the soul is part of Plato's concept of the triad of the soul and is an agent that influences many aspects of human action and consciousness. In this dialogue, the mortal soul of man is presented as a mosaic that is made up of different parts. Plato considers the mortal part of the soul to be a lower part, which, however, is necessary for the functioning of the body and consequently human life, while Plato views the immortal part as a higher, nobler aspect of the soul. According to the Timaeus, the immortal soul is the guardian and guide of the mortal soul. The lethal component is the key to understanding how human life works. It is a necessary condition for us to be able to lead an orderly and true life, so it is an indispensable complement to the immortal part of the soul. It is a kind of intermediary between the body and the higher part of the soul, which provides us with the ability to think and make decisions. In this work, I will try to find an answer to a question that was never answered in Plato's Timaeus, and what that mortal part of the soul actually is.
