Lukas Bärfuss - Malaga - An analysis of the play and problems of its translation into Czech

Abstract:

The subject of the diploma thesis is the theory of the translation of drama as well as the analysis of the translation of this drama „Malaga“. The theoretical part of the thesis concentrates on Lukas Bärfuss, the Swiss author of the above mentioned drama. Furthermore is the theoretical part concerned with the translation of dramatic texts and their particularities which are a part of the translator’s work. The practical part deals with the analysis of the conversational drama “Malaga” which has not been translated into Czech up to now. The analysis focuses on the characteristic of individual characters of the play and on the linguistic specifics of the text. Essential part of the thesis is an analysis of the translation of “Malaga” into Czech and its difficulties. The aim of this part is to demonstrate the translation process and possible solutions on extracts from the text. Full version of the translated text and the original text is accessible in the appendix of the thesis.

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá teorií překladu divadelních her a analýzou překladu dramatického díla „Malaga“. V teoretické části je představen švýcarský autor této hry, Lukas Bärfuss. Dále se teoretická část zabývá teorií překladu divadelních her, kde jsou popsána specifika dramatických textů, se kterými je překladatel během své práce konfrontován. V praktické části je analyzováno do češtiny dosud nepřeložené konverzační drama „Malaga“, kde je věnována pozornost především charakteristice jednotlivých postav a jazykovým zvláštnostem daného díla. Největší část diplomové práce tvoří analýza překladu „Malagy“ z německého do českého jazyka. Ta si klade za cíl demonstrovat překladatelský proces na úryvcích z překládaného díla a poukázat na problematické pasáže v textu, ke kterým jsou uvedená možná řešení. K textu práce je přiložen kompletní překlad divadelní hry „Malaga“ a naskenovaný originál.
