European Microstates - the Members of the European Union?

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je analýza vztahů mezi evropskými mikrostáty, konkrétně Andorrou, Monakem a San Marinem, a Evropskou unií. Práce se snaží zodpovědět, jaké vztahy existují mezi těmito mikrostáty a jejich sousedními "mateřskými" zeměmi, Francií, Itálií a Španělskem, a zda je pravděpodobné budoucí členství těchto mikrostátů v Unii. Hypotéza, na níž se práce snaží odpovědět zní, že „vstup do EU a výhody plynoucí z členství se nevyrovnají, ať již diplomaticky či finančně, možnostem, které těmto státům umožňuje nynější postavení vně-uvnitř EU.“ Práce je rozdělena do tří oddílů. V prvním je probírán pojem „mikrostát“. V druhé části je rozebírána historie a kultura jednotlivých mikrostátů a posléze i jejich vztahy se sousedními zeměmi. V třetím oddíle je pojednáváno o vztazích mezi zkoumanými státy a Unií.

Abstract:

The bachelor’s work is analysing the relations between European microstates, (Andorra, Monaco and San Marino) and the European Union. The work is trying to answer what kind of relations exists between the examined microstates and their neighbouring states (France, Italy and Spain) and if there is a probability of future membership of Andorra, Monaco and San Marino in the EU. The hypothesis of the work is that “the financial and diplomatic advantages of the access to the EU are not as equal and favourable as the possibilities which are based on the current conditions in which the microstates exist.” The work is divided into three parts. In the first part the concept of a microstate is examined. The second part is devoted to Andorra’s, Monaco’s and San Marino’s history and a culture. In this part the relations with the neighbouring countries are studied as well. In the third part the relations between the microstates and the Union is explored.
