Therapist self-disclosure in psychotherapy

Abstract:

Práce se zaměřuje na problematiku sebeodhalení terapeuta v psychoterapeutickém procesu – tedy kdy a jakým způsobm může být nápomocné. V teoretické části přináší pohled na sdělování osobních informací terapeutem jak z teoretické literatury, tak z výzkumných závěrů; v části empirické výsledky výzkumu uskutečněného pomocí rozhovorů s pěti páry terapeutických dvojic (klient a jeho terapeut), ze kterých byly získané popisy událostí sebeodhalení dále zpracovány pomocí metody zakotvené teorie. Z mého i dalších posuzovaných výzkumů vyplývá, že sebeodhalení je možnou a při pečlivém předchozím zvážení a při vyhodnocování dopadů, často i účinnou intervencí. Výzkumná zjištění naznačují, že prospěšná sebeodhalení nastávají, pokud terapeut pomocí empatického naladění zachytí klientovu potřebu potvrzení prožívání či konání, a podpoří ji sdělením osobní informace způsobem, který je pro klienta srozumitelný a přijatelný. Dojde-li tedy poté k naplnění klientovy potřeby potvrzení normality konání a prožívání, dojde ke zlepšení v prožívání klienta, posunu v řešeném problému a posílení vztahu s terapeutem. Jedinečnost sebeodhalení se jeví v tom, že je možné jej účinně použít jako prostředek k naplnění klientovy potřeby potvrzení prožívání a konání.

Abstract:

The objective of this study is therapist self-dislosure and its use in psychotherapeutic process - when and in which way it can be helpful. The theoretic part brings view at disclosing personal information by therapist from theoretic literature, as well as from experimental studies; in the empirical part presents results of research, in which descriptions of self-disclosing events obtained from interviews with five therapeutic dyads (client and therapist) in naturalistic therapy were elaborated by grounded theory metodology. Results of mine and other research suggest that while considered carefully and monitored client response, therapist self-disclosure should be a possible and effective intervention. Research findings suggest, that helpful self-disclosue occure if emphatic tuned therapist realize client´s need for confirmation of his feelings and acting, and support it by understandable and aceptable manner of disclosing personal information. When the client´s need for confirmation of normality is saturated, client´s feelings would be improved, solved issue would be shift, and treatment relationship would be empowered. Value of disclosure is in effective using as a tool to fulfill client´s need for confirmation of his feelings and acting.
