Abstract:

Táto práca sa zaoberá motivačným potenciálom humoru vo výučbe anglického jazyka. Jej hlavným cieľom je zistiť, ako môže používanie humoru ovplyvniť motiváciu študentov učiť sa. Práca je rozdelená na teoretickú a praktickú časť. Teoretická časť sa zameriava na koncept motivácie a humoru, ktoré skúma zo vzdelávacieho hľadiska. Zaoberá sa taktiež rôznymi pohľadmi a názormi na používanie humoru v triede a identifikuje možné problémy. Informuje tiež o tom, ako správne humor používať a definuje konkrétne techniky používania humoru vo výučbe anglického jazyka. Praktická časť sa zaoberá pohľadom študentov na používanie humoru vo výučbe na základe interpretácie dát získaných z dotazníkového šetrenia. Následne analyzuje výsledky akčného výskumu, ktorý bol zameraný na pozorovanie hodín, v ktorých boli použité aktivity s prvkami humoru. Jeho cieľom bolo analyzovať špecifické zmeny v správaní študentov so zameraním na motiváciu. Výskum potvrdil význam motivačnej role humoru pri výučbe anglického jazyka a definoval odporúčania pre učiteľov.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the motivational potential of humour in English language teaching. Its main aim is to identify the effects of the use of humour on students´ motivation to learn. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part focuses on motivation and humour and considers them from an educational perspective. It also discusses the opinions and perceptions of the use of humour in a classroom and identifies possible issues. Finally, it proposes advice on how to use humour in a classroom in an informed way and defines the specific techniques of using humour in English language teaching. The practical part firstly focuses on the analysis of the data obtained from the questionnaire which dealt with students´ attitudes and perceptions of the use of humour in a classroom. Secondly, it analyses the results from the educational action research which focused on the observation of lessons where the activities with humorous elements were employed. It aims to analyse the specific effects of humour on the students´ behaviour and motivation. The thesis concludes with the acknowledgement of the motivational role of humour in English language teaching and recommendations for teachers.
