Management of commercial bank s profitability

Abstract:

The aim of this diploma thesis is to introduce the management system of the commercial bank and to evaluate the impact of the current crisis on the profitability of commmercial banks according to the analysis of developments in the profitability of commercial banks in therms of the Slovak Republic and also to suggest its management possibilities in the time of crisis. This diploma thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter defines the concept of a commercial bank and describe its objectives, features and functions. It characterizes the concepts like a profit, liquidity, solvency and security of commercial banks. The second chapter deals with the profitability of the banking sector of the Slovak Republic and the profitability of the three selected largest banks. We mention development of profitability, development of indicators ROA, ROE of profit and loss account and comparing profitability between selected banks. Quantify factors, that influenced given profitability of banks. The third chapter deals with the selected effect and measures, that the commercial banks have made in interest to maintain their profitability in the time of crisis and post-crisis period.

Abstract:

Cieľom diplomovej práce je predstaviť systém riadenia komerčnej banky a na základe analýzy vývoja ziskovosti komerčných bánk v podmienkach Slovenskej republiky, zhodnotiť dopady súčasnej krízy na rentabilitu bánk a naznačiť možnosti jej riadenia v období krízy. Diplomová práca je rozdelená do troch kapitol. V prvej kapitole definujeme pojem komerčná banka a popisujeme jej ciele, črty a funkcie. Charakterizujeme pojmy ako zisk, likvidita, solventnosť a bezpečnosť komerčnej banky. V druhej kapitole sa zaoberáme rentabilitou bankového sektora SR a vybraných troch najväčších bánk. Uvádzame vývoj ziskovosti, vývoj ukazovateľov ROA, ROE, výkazu ziskov a strát, a porovnávame ziskovosť medzi vybranými bankami. Kvantifikujeme faktory, ktoré ovplyvnili danú rentabilitu bánk. V tretej kapitole sa venujeme vybraným efektom, opatreniam ktoré urobili komerčné banky v rámci zachovania svojej ziskovosti v období krízy a v období po kríze.
