Lithuanian foreign policy from 1991 to 2004 according to the theory of small states and in the context of relations with the Russian federation

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is focused on typical foreign policy behavior of small state in the international arena. The main aim is to use Lithuania as an example for case study, which shows that not all small states meet all of the criteria as defined by the theory. It shows the differencies in case of Lithuania and explains them. Relations towards the Russian Federation are still one of the main influences on foreign policy of former soviet states and thus are considered as one of the influences on foreign policy process and foreign policy making. The bachelor thesis is structured as a single case study based on the theory of small states, which is described and explained in the first part of thesis.

Abstract:

Predkladaná bakalárska práca je zameraná na typické správanie sa malého štátu v zahraničnej politike, pričom jej hlavným cieľom je na prípade Litvy ukázať, že nie každý malý štát bude spĺňať obecnou teóriou definované vzorce správania sa, poukázať na to, v čom sa zahraničná politika malého štátu môže líši od teoretických predpokladov a vysvetliť prečo je tomu tak. Keďže v krajinách bývalého Sovietskeho zväzu hrá vzťah k Rusku stále významnú úlohu v procese tvorby a realizácie zahraničnej politiky, bude tento skúmaný ako jeden z vplyvov na zahraničnú politiku ako takú. Práca je koncipovaná ako jednoprípadová štúdia, pričom teoreticky vychádza z predstaveného konceptu malých štátov.
