The role mothers in the recovery of their children’s schizophrenia

Abstract:

Tato magisterská diplomová práce se zabývá pohledem matek na svoji roli v zotavení svých potomků, kteří onemocněli schizofrenií. Cílem bylo zjistit, jak tyto matky vnímají změnu vztahů po příchodu onemocnění, jakou roli v domácím prostředí, které se svými potomky sdílejí, převzaly a také jakým způsobem zasahují do života jejich synů a dcer. Práce je rozdělena na dvě části, na teoretickou a empirickou. V teoretické části je vysvětlen pojem schizofrenie, představena nemoc, krátce i historie, vznik nemoci i léčba. Také věnuje prostor dopadům schizofrenie na osobnost i okolí nemocného, věnuje se i zotavení. Dále pak popisuje duševní onemocnění v domácím prostředí, formu komunikace a vztahů, koncept funkční a dysfunkční rodiny a sociální opory. V empirické části jsou popsány veškeré kroky při realizování kvalitativního výzkumného šetření a následně představeny a interpretovány výsledky výzkumu realizovaného prostřednictvím hloubkových polostrukturovaných rozhovoru s matkami, které sdílejí domácí prostředí se svými nemocnými potomky.

Abstract:

This master's thesis deals with the view of mothers on their role in the recovery of their offspring who became ill with schizophrenia. The aim is to discover how these mothers perceive the change in relationships after the sickness arrives, what role they adopt in the home environment which they share with their offspring and how they interfere with their lives. The thesis is divided into two parts; theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part explains the concept of schizophrenia; it presents the disease along with its history, origin and its recovery and treatment. It also takes notice of an impact on the personality and the environment of the patient. Last but not leasts, the attention is paid to a description of a mental illness in the home environment, social support as well as the forms of communication, relationships and the concept of functional and dysfunctional family. The empirical part then focuses on the process of realization of the qualitative research conducted through in-depth semi-structured interviews with mothers who share the home environment with their sick offspring. Finally the results of the research are analyzed and presented.
