Make-up as a gendered practice

Abstract:

Praktice líčení a její genderovanosti se doposud nevěnovala přílišná pozornost, tato bakalářská práce se snaží o změnu v této nepříliš prozkoumané oblasti, zaměřuje se na praktiku líčení a její (ne)užívání u žen dvou věkových skupin, a to 18 - 25 a 30 - 45. Dvě skupiny byly zvoleny pro porovnání výpovědí žen v různých životních etapách. Cílem práce je nahlédnout do každodenního života žen, a zjistit, jak ženy samy vnímají praktiku líčení, zdali je pro ně spíše praktikou utlačující, emancipující či jinou. Zároveň se snaží zodpovědět otázku, co vede ženy k užívání či neužívání praktiky líčení v jejich každodenním životě a jaké faktory ovlivňují jejich rozhodnutí. Práce je postavena na kvalitativní metodologii, při níž byly použity polostrukturované rozhovory se 14 konverzačními partnerkami, které poskytly vhled do této problematiky.

Abstract:

The practice of make-up and its gender dimension is rather marginalized and only little attention was paid to this practice that influences daily lives of many women, this thesis tries to change the situation in this unexplored field. It focuses on practice of make-up and its using or not using by women in two age groups, one 18 - 25 and the other 30 - 45. These two age groups were chosen because of comparison of women in different stages of their lives. The aim of this thesis is to insight into the daily routine of women and to find out, how women perceive the practice of making up, if they find it rather oppressive or emancipating. It simultaneously tries to answer the question about women?s using or not using make-up in their everyday life and to detect factors which influence their decisions. The thesis is based on the qualitative methodology in which semi-structured interviews with 14 women were used. These women provided the insight into this field.
