Self-efficacy and coping strategies in children with specific learning difficulties

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá vztahem mezi úrovní self-efficacy a používanými copingovými strategiemi u dětí se specifickými poruchami učení oproti dětem bez poruchy učení. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 113 dětí z toho 62 dětí se specifickou poruchou učení (32,3 % dívek a 67,7 % chlapců) a 51 dětí bez specifické poruchy učení (54,9 % dívek a 45,1 % chlapců). Věkově se děti pohybují od 12 (46,1 %) do 13 (53,9 %) let. Ke zjišťování míry self-efficacy byl použit Dotazník obecné vlastní efektivity (SWE) a pro zjišťování užívaných copingových strategií byla použita Škála strategií zvládání pro děti (CCSC). Děti z testovaného vzorku s poruchou učení využívaly strategie vyhledávání opory významně více než děti bez SPU. Další nesoulad se potvrdil u vyhýbavých copingových strategií, které častěji používaly děti bez specifické poruchy učení. Dále tento výzkum prokázal, že děti navštěvující specializované třídy mají vyšší míru self-efficacy než integrované děti se SPU i než děti bez poruchy učení. V práci jsou mimo těchto zjištění rozepsány i ostatní výsledky a následně kriticky zhodnoceny v diskuzi.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with relationship between level of self-efficacy and coping strategies. The study compared chidren with specific learning disorder a childern without learning disability. The research sample consisted of 113 children between the ages of 12 (46,1 %) and 13 (53,9) years. 62 of them was with specific learning disorder (32,3 % females and 67,7 % males) and 51 of them was wihtout specific learning disorder (54,9 % females and 45,1 % males). For the measurement of the level of self-efficacy we used Allgemeine Selbstwirksamkeitserwartung, (SWE) and for measurement of the coping strategies was used Children's coping strategies checklist (CCSC). Children with specific learning disorder were more likely to use avoidance strategies. On the other hand, children without learning disability were more likely to use distraction strategies. The study points out the fact that children in our research sample with learning disorder visiting special class showed higher level of self-efficacy than integrated children wiht learning disorder and than children without learning disoreder too. In our work we describe results in details and we critically evaluate them in the discussion.
