Social engineering and application in penetration testing

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce aplikuje sociální inženýrství za využití penetračního testování. Začíná definicí sociálního inženýrství, jeho metodami a ochrannými opatřeními, následovanou analýzou jeho využití v České republice, doplněnou výsledky dotazníkového šetření. Práce zkoumá naivitu a neopatrnost osob. Dále popisuje klíčové fáze penetračního testování, různé typy testů a zranitelnosti, přičemž se většinou zaměřuje na webové stránky a jejich manipulaci s citlivými daty. V praktické části byla navržena a implementována jednoduchá webová stránka, která slouží jako jeden z cílových objektů pro sociální inženýrství a penetrační testování, a skript pro rozesílání pozvánek na tuto webovou stránku. Práce také zkoumá manipulaci a úroveň obezřetnosti osob při používání jejich hesel pomocí sociálního inženýrství. Navazuje sada experimentů, které zkoumají právě obezřetnost osob a jejich zacházení s citlivými daty.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis applies social engineering using penetration testing. It begins with a definition of social engineering, its methods and safeguards, followed by an analysis of its use in the Czech Republic, supplemented by the results of a questionnaire survey. The paper examines the naivety and carelessness of individuals. It also describes the key stages of penetration testing, different types of tests and vulnerabilities, focusing mostly on websites and their handling of sensitive data. In the practical part, a simple website was designed and implemented to serve as one of the target objects for social engineering and penetration testing, and a script to send invitations to this website. The thesis also investigates the manipulation and level of caution people use when using their passwords through social engineering. This is followed by a set of experiments that investigate just the prudence of individuals and their handling of sensitive data
