Filter bubbles and hoaxes on social networks

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou sociálních bublin a šíření hoaxů na sociálních sítích. Cílem práce je vysvětlení jevů sociálních bublin, problematiky hoaxů a analýza dat z dotazníkového šetření. Teoretická část práce objasňuje, co jsou sociální bubliny, kdy je lze takto klasifikovat a jaký mají vztah k takzvaným hoaxům. Dále je zkoumáno, jak vybrané sociální sítě bojují proti dezinformacím a proč mohou představovat společenské riziko. Dílčím cílem je také zkoumání cenzury informací na sociálních sítích a porovnání mezi různými formami cenzurování obsahu u velkých technologických firem; k tomu budou vymezeny etické a právní limity, které mohou u omezování obsahu nastat. V praktické části práce je popisována analýza dat z provedeného výzkumu. Výsledky analýzy ukazují, jaký typ uživatele sociální sítě je nejčastěji náchylný k dezinformacím.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis focuses on the issue of filter bubbles and the spread of hoaxes on social websites. The aim of the thesis is to explain the phenomena of filter bubbles, the issue of hoaxes and the analysis of data from a questionnaire survey. The theoretical part of the thesis explains what filter bubbles are, under what circumstances they can be classified as such and how they relate to so-called hoaxes. Furthermore, it examines how selected social networks combat misinformation and why they may pose a social risk. A sub-objective is also to examine information censorship on social networks and to compare between different forms of content censorship at large technology companies; to do so, the ethical and legal limits that can occur in content restriction will be defined. The practical part of the thesis describes the analysis of the data from the research conducted. The results of the analysis will show what type of social network user is most susceptible to misinformation.
