Nature in the Czech historiography of 12th century

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se nazývá Příroda v české historiografii 12. století. V rámci práce vyhledávám zmínky o přírodě v šesti významných kronikách 12. století. Zmínky byly excerpovány z Kosmovy kroniky, historických děl jeho pokračovatelů (Kanovníka vyšehradského, Mnicha sázavského, Jarlocha a Vincencia). Těchto pět kronik bylo doplněno rozborem Letopisů hradišťsko-opatovických. Diplomová práce je pokusem o komplexní rozbor všech zmíněných historických děl z hlediska zvolené tematiky: příroda. Excerpuji zprávy o astronomických jevech (komety, zatmění Slunce a Měsíce, polární záře, meteority a pozorování hvězd). Věnuji se i rozmarům přírody. Například zemětřesení, neobvyklé klima, úroda nebo naopak neúroda apod. S tím úzce souvisí fenomén mor a hladomor. Dále se práce zabývá zmínkami o medu. Práce se zabývá otázkou, zda jsou zmínky založeny na pravdivých událostech. Jak si naši předkové vysvětlovali proměny počasí a nebeské úkazy. Jestli spojovali události s něčím nadpozemským. Cílem je zjistit, jaké klimatické podmínky byly v Čechách ve 12. století. Samostatnou kapitolou je rozbor zmínek o medu jako základní surovině. Nakonec se pokusím najít souvislost mezi všemi zmíněními přírodními úkazy.

Abstract:

The thesis is called Nature in the Czech historiography of the 12th century. In this thesis, I seek reference to nature in Czech historiography of the 12th century. From the 12th century the domestic chronicles meet its dated. Mentions were excerpted from Kosmas and historical works of his followers (Kanovník vyšehradský, Mnich sázavský, Jarloch and Vincencius). These five chronicles analysis was supplemented with "Letopisy hradišťsko-opatovické". This thesis is an attempt at a comprehensive analysis of all these historical works in terms of the chosen themes: nature. Excerpts of reports of astronomical phenomena (comets, eclipses of the Sun and the Moon, aurorae, meteors and stargazing). Also the vagaries of nature (for example earthquakes, unusual climate, crop failures). Closely related to the phenomenon of plague and famine. Furthermore, the work deals with mentions of honey. The work deals with the question whether there are some comments based on true events. How they explain the transformation of our ancestors weather and celestial phenomena. If they associate the event with something unearthly. The aim is to determine what climatic conditions were in Bohemia in the 12th century. A separate chapter is to analyze the references to honey as a base material. Finally, try to find a connection between all mentioning the natural phenomena.
