The text discusses the phenomenon of piracy around Somalia. Its main objective is to illustrate and emphasise the direct impact of the Somali state collapse on the rise of piracy in the neighbouring waters. The first part of the text briefly introduces the Failed State Theory and relates it to the Somali case, and also offers a concise account of the country’s modern history.
