Prvý krát bola myšlienka na zjednotenie Európy sformulovaná pred vyše 50 rokmi a prelomovým bolo podpísanie Rímskych zmlúv, ktoré sa považujú za základný kameň Európskej únie. Uplynulo dlhé obdobie, počas ktorého sa jednotný vnútorný trh formoval do dnešnej podoby. I vďaka úsiliu a jednote Európy môžeme dnes plne využívať výhody, ktoré priniesla postupná integrácia Európy.
