Narrative function of mise-en-scene in Beetlejuice

Abstract:

A subject of this bachelor´s thesis is a neoformalistist analysis of Beetlejuice the american movie directed by Tim Burton in 1988 in USA This thesis is divided in three basic segments. The first part of this neoformalist analysis describes the concept of the analysis in that way how Kristin Thompson describes it in her work Breaking the Glass Armor: Neoformalists Analysis. The next part describes economic and cultural context of Beetlejuice. It´s a chapter about director´s biography, movie background, film production, distribution, exhibition and at least reception. The main and the biggest one is the neoformalist analysis of chosen movie. In this last part will then focus on the narrative form and its visual style of the film. Most of the work is based on book by David Bordwell and Kristin Thompson.

Abstract:

Predmetom tejto bakalárskej práce je neoformalistická analýza amerického filmu Beetlejuice od režiséra Tima Burtona. Práca je rozdelená do troch segmentov. Prvá časť analýzy popisuje neoformalistické prístupy podľa filmovej teoretičky Kristin Thompsonovej. Ďalšia časť je venovaná ekonomickému a kultúrnemu kontextu filmu Beetlejuice. Hlavná časť je samotná neoformalistická analýza vybraného filmu. V tejto poslednej kapitole je pozornosť venovaná naratívnej forme a štýlu filmu.
