Standart of living in Czechoslovakia during the 1950's and 1960's

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá životní úrovní v Československu v 50. a 60. letech 20. století. V první části práce je charakterizován vývoj v Československu v 50. a 60. letech jak už z politického hlediska, tak i v souvislostech jaké měla politika na společnost. V druhé části je popsán vývoj sociální politiky ve sledovaných letech. Třetí část se zabývá otázkou volného času a otázce ovlivňování trávení volného času socialistickou mocí. Ve čtvrté části je věnována pozornost vybraným determinantům životní úrovně a jejich srovnání ve vybraných zemích. Hlavními cíli je analýza životní úrovně a její srovnání s okolními státy a hodnocení role socialistické moci ve vývoji životní úrovně a volného času. Socialistická moc hrála v životní úrovni velkou roli a to jak ve veličinách ovlivňující životní úroveň, tak ve formování volného času. Srovnání životní úrovně není tak zcela jednoznačné. Zatímco v některých veličinách se ukazuje zaostalost Československa za ostatními zeměmi, v některých proměnných si Československo stojí podobně jako západní státy.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is dealing with the standard of living in Czechoslovakia during the 1950's and 1960's. The first part characterizes the evolution in Czechoslovakia in the 50' and 60' from the political view, as well as it examines the influences of that policy on the society. The second part describes the development of a social policy in the years question. The third part is concerned with a question of leisure time and the matter of influencing the way of spending peoples' leisure time by the socialist power. The fourth part is focused on specific determinants of the living standards, comparing them with selected countries. The main goals are the analysis of the living standard and it's comparison with surrounding states and the evaluation of the role by the socialist power in the development of living standards and a leisure time. Socialist power played important role in living standards, specifically in factors determining the living standards as well as in formation of the leisure time. Comparison of the living standards is not completely straightforward. While some factors show underdevelopment of the Czechoslovakia compared to other countries, some variables are on a level comparable with the western states.
