The effect of management on mollusc assemblages in lowland standing water bodies

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá vlivem rybničního hospodaření na vodní měkkýše stojatých vod. Práce obsahuje rešeršní část, výzkumnou část a návrh didaktického využití této práce při výuce na střední škole. V první části rešerše jsou krátce shrnuty nejdůležitější ekologické faktory, které vodní měkkýše ovlivňují. Jedná se o chemismus vody, úroveň trofie vodního tělesa, množství a charakter vodních makrofyt, charakter substrátu, hloubku, množství kyslíku, teplotu, predaci a kompetici. Ve druhé části rešerše je diskutován vliv rybničního hospodaření na vodní měkkýše, kdy jako důležité byly určeny tyto faktory: intenzita rybí obsádky a její druhové složení, množství příkrmů, hnojení rybníků a letnění a zimování rybníků. Cílem terénního výzkumu bylo zjistit, jaký vliv má rybniční hospodaření na vodní měkkýše. Studováno bylo 30 rybníků ve východních Čechách. Na každém rybníku byly určeny tři odběrné plochy, na kterých byl proveden semikvantitativní sběr vodních měkkýšů a byly zjištěny proměnné prostředí. Celkem bylo nalezeno 2694 jedinců sladkovodních měkkýšů náležejících k 25 druhům (15 plicnatých plžů, osm mlžů, dva „předožábří“ plži). Proměnné prostředí, které se signifikantně podílely na vysvětlení variability druhové skladby vodních měkkýšů, jsou množství kaprů, příkrmů, rákosu, chlorofylu, fosfátů a průhlednost vody, dále pak množství DOC (rozpuštěný organický uhlík), ostatní vegetace, organického materiálu, hrubost substrátu a mocnost měkkého sedimentu. Pro druhovou bohatost a abundance pak byla zaznamenána významnější pozitivní korelace s množstvím DOC a s průhledností vody. Negativní korelace byla zaznamenána s množstvím kaprů, ostatních ryb, příkrmů a rákosu. Pro zjištění vlivu rybničního hospodaření na vodní měkkýše byly rybníky rozděleny na méně ovlivněné a více ovlivněné, a to na základě množství chovaných kaprů. Bylo prokázáno, že variabilita druhového složení, druhová bohatost i abundance se na méně a více ovlivněných rybnících signifikantně liší, přičemž méně ovlivněné rybníky jsou pro vodní měkkýše výrazně lepší lokality. Signifikantně se lišily také některé proměnné prostředí. Na více ovlivněných rybnících byla nižší průhlednost vody, menší množství organického materiálu a DOC, naopak vyšší bylo množství příkrmů a chlorofylu. Podmínky pro vodní měkkýše jsou tedy na ovlivněných lokalitách výrazně horší.

Abstract:

This master thesis deals with the influence of pond management on freshwater molluscs in standing waters. This work contains a review part, research part and a proposal of how this work could be used for didactic purposes at a high school. In the first part of the review, I give a short overview of the ecological factors influencing freshwater molluscs. These factors consist of water chemistry, trophic level of the water body, amount and character of aquatic macrophytes, character of the substrate, depth, amount of oxygen, temperature, predation and competition. In the second part of the review, I discuss the influence of pond management on freshwater molluscs - here the following factors are the most important: the intensity of the fish population and its species composition, the amount of supplements, fertilization of ponds and the summering and wintering of ponds. The goal of the field research was to find out what influence pond management has on freshwater molluscs. Thirty ponds in the eastern Bohemia were studied. At each pond, three collection sites were selected and in each of those a semiquantitative collection of freshwater molluscs was conducted. Overall, 2697 specimen of freshwater molluscs were collected. These were of 25 different species (15 pulmonates, eight bivalves, two „prosobranchias“). The variables of the environment which significantly helped to explain the variability of the species composition of freshwater molluscs include amount of carp, feed, reeds, chlorophyll, phosphates and water transparency, then amount of DOC (dissolved organic carbon), other vegetation, organic material, substrate roughness and soft sediment thickness. A more significant positive correlation of species richness and abundance with amount of DOC and water transparency was observed. A negative correlation was observed with the number of carps, other fish and the amount of feed and reed. In order to determine the influence of pond management on freshwater molluscs the ponds were split into two groups of less affected and more affected sites. It was proven that the variability of species composition, species richness and abundance differs from less affected ponds to more affected ponds - here the less affected ponds are more suitable for freshwater molluscs. Significant were also the differences in some of the variables of the environment. The more affected ponds had lower water transparency, less organic material and DOC, on the other hand, they had higher amount of feed and chlorophyll. The conditions in the more affected ponds are substantially worse for freshwater molluscs.
