Se zjištěním, že existují i jiné typy DNA struktur než B-DNA, se výzkum DNA začal zabývat těmito jednotlivými strukturami. Protože bylo objeveno mnoho typů DNA struktur, bylo nezbytné zjistit, jakou mají biologické úlohy. With discovery that there are various types of DNA structures than B-DNA, research of DNA began to look into these specific structures.
