Ačkoliv reaktivní formy kyslíku (ROS) představují přirozenou součást buněčného metabolismu kyslíku, jejich nadbytek vyvolává oxidativní stres, který je odpovědný za poškození buněčných struktur. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) present a natural part of cellular oxygen metabolism, whereas the excess of ROS causes oxidative stress responsible for damage to the cellular structures. Among others, one class of methionine sulfoxide reductases (Msrs) has been recognized as an intracellular marker for oxidized methionine residues in proteins.
