Home movie – presentation and reception of home movies in the public space

Abstract:

Tato magisterská práce se zaměřuje na výzkum v oblasti uvádění a recepce rodinných filmů (zaznamenaných na filmovém materiálu) ve veřejném prostoru. Na šesti vybraných případech zkoumá především podoby zpracování původního rodinného materiálu, dále konkrétní místa, v nichž se prezentují, a zároveň také způsob, jakým k nim přichází divák. Těmito konkrétními případy jsou Home Movie Day organizovaný Jiřím Horníčkem ve spolupráci s Národním filmovým archivem, dále představení Ekran a Pan Roman české umělecké skupiny Handa Gote a Martina Ježka, dokumentární cykly Soukromé století Jana Šikla i Konzervy času Marka Šulíka a také vybrané galerijní instalace Pétera Forgácse. Práce nakonec poskytuje vhled do problematiky archivování těchto soukromých filmů.

Abstract:

This master thesis is focused on the research of presentation and reception of home movies (recorded on film material) in a public space. Six chosen cases are used to examine the forms of processing of original home movies, as well as concrete places, in which they are displayed, and also the way, in which they are presented to viewers. These specific cases are Home Movie Day organized by Jiří Horníček together with National Film Archive, two artistic projects Ekran and Pan Roman created by the cooperation of Czech group Handa Gote with Martin Ježek, documentary series Private Century of Jan Šikl and Cans of Time of Marek Šulík and also chosen gallery installations of Péter Forgács. The end of the thesis provides insight to the challenges of archiving of home movies.
