The effect of the physiological cycle on female psyche and behaviour

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the changes in the behavior and psyche of women, induced by physiological cycles. The aim of this work was also to create an educational pamphlet for women containing the researched information. This work was written using research-compilation method and was based mostly on foreign science articles. The first part describes physiological characteristics of the ovarian, hormonal, endometrial and cervical cycle and the most common irregularities of the menstrual cycle. In the main part, thesis focuses on specific changes in psyche and behavior. It describes the changes on the level of sense-perception, eating habits, sleep, sexual desire, physical activity, mood and emotions. Last part of the thesis analyses the possibilities and meaning of monitoring individual physiological cycles. It describes symptothermal method, possible usage of mobile applications for cycle monitoring and the link between menstrual cycle and cycles in nature. Thesis confirms that the influence of physiological cycles on female behavior and psyche is substantial. The output of this work is a practical brochure that informs about physiology of the menstrual cycle, changes in the psyche in different phases of the cycle and meaning and options of monitoring these cycles. Brochure tries to increase the awareness of women in this topic and can be used in the outpatient’s department of a midwife or a gynecologist.

Abstract:

Bakalárska práca sa zaoberá zmenami ženského správania a psychiky, spôsobovanými vplyvom fyziologických cyklov. Cieľom práce je ďalej zoskupenie zistených informácií pre ženy v prehľadnom edukačnom materiáli. Práca bola vypracovaná rešeršno-kompilačnou metódou prevažne zo zahraničných vedeckých článkov. V prvej časti sú popísané fyziologické charakteristiky ovariálneho, hormonálneho, endometriálneho a cervikálneho cyklu a najčastejšie nepravidelnosti menštruačného cyklu. Ďalej sú načrtnuté psychosomatické a kultúrne aspekty vnímania menštruácie. V hlavnej časti sa práca zameriava na konkrétne zmeny na úrovni psychiky a správania. Popisované sú premeny zmyslového vnímania, stravovania, spánku, sexuálnej túžby a fyzickej aktivity, nálad a emócií. Posledná časť sa venuje možnosťami a významom individuálneho sledovania cyklov. Rozoberaná je symptotermálna metóda, využívanie mobilných aplikácií, či väzba menštruačného cyklu na cykly prírody. Práca potvrdzuje, že vplyv fyziologických cyklov na správanie a psychiku žien je významný. Výstupom práce je praktická brožúra, ktorá zoskupuje najdôležitejšie poznatky o fyziológií cyklu, o premenách správania a psychiky v odlišných fázach cyklu a o možnostiach a význame sledovania cyklu. Brožúra pomáha prehĺbiť vedomosti žien a môže sa využiť v ambulancii pôrodnej asistentky alebo u gynekológa.
