Artistic Decorations of Selected Items of Plate Armour from the Este Collection from the Period of Mannerism

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá uměleckou výzdobou vybraných kusů plátové zbroje italské provenience Estenské sbírky na zámku Konopiště z období manýrismu. Práce seznamuje s historickým vývojem zbroje, nastiňuje důvody rozdělení zbroje na účelovou a umělecky zpracovanou reprezentační zbroj. Ve své době byla tato umělecky ztvárněná luxusní zbroj velmi ceněna a byla stavěna na úroveň ostatních uměleckých předmětů.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with artistic decorations of selected items of plate armour of Italian provenience from the Este collection at Konopiště castle from the period of mannerism. The thesis discusses the historical development of armour and outlines the reasons for the distinction between purpose-built and artistically elaborated armour. In its time, the artistically shaped armour was highly evaluated and was comsidered to be a real work of art.
