Offender Profiling: Analysis of techniques, process and its use in the course of criminal investigation in Slovakia

Abstract:

Thesis provides a complex theoretical basis for the method of offender profiling, which is missing in current literature. Research part of the thesis is constructed as a qualitative research. The first goal of the research is to establish the „ideal“ process of the psychological profiling. The second goal is to identify the main structure of the psychological profile of an offender, which means to clearly describe and explain various attributes of an unknown offender contained in his psychological profile. Thesis also provides an overlook on the attitude of the police towards the offender profiling in Slovakia and its use in the course of criminal investigation.

Abstract:

Predkladaná diplomová práca je zakotvená v investigatívnej psychológii a pojednáva o metóde psychologického profilovania. Diplomová práca poskytuje komplexný teoretický rámec pre metódu psychologického profilovania, ktorý v súčasnej odbornej literatúre chýba. Empirická časť diplomovej práce je konštruovaná formou kvalitatívneho výskumu, v ktorom sú analyzované reálne psychologické profily. Prvým cieľom výskumu je navrhnúť „ideálny“ postup, ktorým by sa psychologický profil mal vytvárať. Druhým cieľom výskumu je identifikácia základnej štruktúry psychologického profilu, tzn. jasný popis a vysvetlenie jednotlivých profilovaných atribútov neznámeho páchateľa. Diplomová práca poskytuje aj zmapovanie postoju polície na Slovensku k využívaniu psychologického profilovania počas vyšetrovania trestných činov.
