The use of Voronoi diagram of spheres for granular models

Abstract:

The primary objective of the diploma thesis has been to experiment with the Voronoi diagrams of spheres (balls) in granular models. As a proposed solution it was suggested to test the Voronoi diagrams in sphere packing problem and granular motion simulation. The main application uses the library of Voronoi diagram of balls implemented by Ing. M. Manak and Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics open source to solve the physics issue. The work has been divided into two main parts, a survey of the Voronoi diagram of spheres, introduction into its geometry primitives and topology. The second part proposes two types of the diagram application, sphere packing and dynamic fluid simulation. The main application is implemented in C# programming language and OpenGL. All experimental results were obtained on an Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU, 2.40GHz, 4GB RAM using C#, Windows 7.

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem této diplomové práce je prostudovat problematiku VD koulí a způsoby využívání VD pro modelování granulí. Dále navrhnout řešení pro otestování Voronoiova diagramu 3D koulí na problému pakování koulí a simulace pohybu sfér. Hlavní část aplikace využívá VD knihovnu, která byla naimplementována Ing. M. Maňákem a externí C++ SPH knihovnu na řešení fyzikální části implementace (simulace pohybu). Práce je rozdělena do dvou hlavních částí. První část obsahuje úvod do problematiky VD koulí, popis geometrických primitiv a topologii. Druhá část popisuje řešení aplikací VD koulí v pakování sfer a simulaci pohybu sfér, implementační aspekty a dosažené výsledky. Aplikace byla implementována v C# and OpenGL. Všechny uvedené výsledky byly zpracovány na stroji se specifikací: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU, 240GHz, 4GB RAM, OS Windows 7.
