A comparison of oral health between sportsmen and general population

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou úrovně orálního zdraví sportovců, která je následně srovnávána s úrovní orálního zdraví běžné populace. Teoretická část je rozdělena na 6 částí. První z nich je věnována charakteristice rekreačního, výkonnostního, vrcholového sportu a také rozdělení jednotlivých sportovních skupin na sportovní odvětví. Druhá část se zabývá faktory ovlivňujícími orální zdraví sportovců a jejich možnou prevencí. Zde jsou popsány specifické výživové doporučení pro sportovce a jejich vliv na zdraví dutiny ústní, úrazy v orofaciální oblasti ve sportu a také obecná orální hygiena. Třetí část popisuje vliv konkrétních sportovních odvětví na orální zdraví sportovců. Následně jsou zde uvedeny nejčastější mikrobiální a nemikrobiální poškození tvrdých zubních tkání a parodontu, které se vyskytují u obou zkoumaných skupin. Pátá část je věnována charakteristice a obecným preventivním opatřením orálního zdraví dle Světové organizace zdraví (WHO). V poslední části jsou zmíněny informace z provedených zahraničních studií orálního zdraví sportovců a také samotné porovnání úrovně orálního zdraví sportovců a běžné populace. Praktická část je rozdělena na kazuistiku, která dokumentuje výrobu chrániče zubů, splňujícího podmínky Akademie sportovní stomatologie (ASD) a interpretaci výsledků dotazníkového šetření, zaměřeného na srovnání orálního zdraví sportovců a běžné populace.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is concerned with the problematics of the level of oral health of sportsmen which is subsequently compared with the level of oral health of general population. The theoretical part is divided into 6 parts. The first part is dedicated to the characteristics of recreational, performance-related and top level sport. It pays attention to the division of sport groups into sport sectors as well. Second part deals with factors influencing oral health of sportsmen and their possible prevention. In this part there are specific diet recommendations for sportsmen described and their influence on oral health is outlined. Also, possible injuries in orofacial area in sport are defined there and a general oral hygiene is mentioned. Third part is devoted to the influence of concrete sport sectors to the oral health of sportsmen. Furthermore the most common microbial and nonmicrobial damage of dental hard tissues and parodont which occur in both examined groups are specified. Fifth part is dedicated to the characteristics and general prevention of oral health according to World Health Organisation. In the last part are interpreted the information regarding the level of oral health of sportsmen and general population from studies performed abroad. The practical part is divided into case report which is depicting the creation of sport mouthguard which meet the requirements of the Academy for Sports Dentistry and interpretation of results of questionnaire survey focusing on the comparison of oral health of sportsmen and general population.
