Analysis of locomotion of Homo neanderthalensis

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá pohybovými možnostmi druhu Homo neanderthalensis. V úvodu je zmíněna základní charakteristika tohoto druhu. Dále pak práce popisuje jejich anatomii s ohledem na pohyb jednotlivých částí těla. Rozebírá bederní lordózu, morfologii horních končetin v souvislosti s házením, škrábáním a manuální zručností a také morfologii dolních končetin a její vliv na chůzi a běh. Dále se práce věnuje odhadu užívání obuvi na základě morfologie prstů nohy. Zmíněna je i bipedie a její evoluce a tafonomie. Jedna z kapitol vysvětluje fyzikální pojmy použité v kapitolách následujících. Cílem práce je zhodnotit možnosti pohybu neandertálců a porovnat zjištěné skutečnosti s pohybem moderního člověka.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with locomotion of Homo neanderthalensis. The introduction mentions the basic characteristic of this species. Furthermore, the thesis describes the anatomy with respect to the locomotion of individual body parts. It analyzes the lumbar lordosis, morphology of the upper limbs with respect to throwing, scraping and manual dexterity, as well as the morphology of the lower limbs and its effect on walking and running. Furthermore, the thesis estimates the usage of shoes based on morphology of toes. It also mentions bipedalism and its evolution, and taphonomy. One of the chapters explains physical terms used in subsequent chapters. The claim of this thesis is to evaluate locomotion of Neanderthals and compare the findings with locomotion of modern humans.
