Republic of Turkey's foreign policy towards the countries of the South Caucasus

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce si klade za cíl zjistit, jaká je zahraniční politika Turecké republiky vůči státům Jihokavkazského regionu (tedy Arménii, Ázerbájdžánu a Gruzii) a zda se liší s ohledem na každou z těchto zemí. Této snaze by mělo přispět nastínění dlouhodobých determinantů ovlivňujících proces vytváření zahraniční politiky a popis jejích reakcí na faktory krátkodobé, jako jsou globální změny, či regionální a vnitropolitická situace. Následně by se práce zabývala vztahy Turecka s jihokavkazskými zeměmi s ohledem na výše zmíněné faktory. Popsala by základní rámec vzájemných vztahů, pozornost je věnována vlivu konfliktů v oblasti a spolupráci v bezpečnostní politice. Dále je zdůrazněna otázka energetiky a euroasijského energetického koridoru. Posledním tematickým celkem je ekonomická spolupráce mezi státy. Výstupem této práce by mělo být prohloubení znalostí o regionu, který je důležitý i pro Českou republiku z pohledu bezpečnostního i jakožto potencionální energetický zdroj.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis aims to find out, what is the Republic of Turkey’s foreign policy towards the countries of the South Caucasus (ie Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia), and whether it differs depending on each country. To support this effort, there’ll be outlined long-term determinants of Turkish foreign policy and description of its responses to short-term factors, such as global changes and regional or domestic political situation. At the second part the thesis will discuss Turkey's relations with the countries of the South Caucasus with regard to above mentioned factors. It’ll describe the basic framework of mutual relations, but attention will be paid also to the impact of regional conflicts and to the cooperation in the questions of security policy. There’ll be highlighted the issue of energy and of The Eurasian Energy Corridor too. The final thematic part is dedicated to the economic cooperation between these states. The outcome of this work should be deepening of knowledge about the region, which is important for the Czech Republic too, in terms of security policy and also as a potential energy source.
