Master's thesis

The qualitative survey will deal with the analysis of Ortel's musical output in 2007 - 2015. This musical group is currently largely publicized mainly due to the award of the Czech Nightingale Mattoni 2016. In the Czech media appeared articles with opinions that the band is extremist and racist. On the other hand, however, the band itself stands apart from these accusations. The aim of the thesis is to identify and describe the contents of lyrics in a critical discourse analysis, to decoded the individual meanings of the lyrics. Next, I will follow up whether the creation has evolved in terms of the band itself and also as they evolved over time. It has to be noted that the aim of the thesis is not to decide whether the lyrics are xenophobic or homophobic or vice versa. The final opinion will be left to the reader. The main research questions will try to answer what topics appear in Ortel's lyrics and how their works developed in 2007-2015.

Abstract:

Magisterská diplomová práce Konstrukce národní identity v textech kapely Ortel se zabývá konstruováním národní identity v textech kapely Ortel vydaných v letech 2007-2015. Cílem práce je jednak pomocí kritické diskurzivní analýzy identifikovat a popsat obsahy textů tak, aby byly dešifrovány jednotlivé významy textů a také zda a jak se tvorba kapely Ortel vyvíjela. První část práce se věnuje zvolené metodologii, kritické diskurzivní analýze, včetně přístupů Ruth Wodakové a Teuna A. van Dijka jejichž texty byly pro tuto práci výchozí. V druhé části práce jsou nejdříve přiblíženy základní pojmy národ a nacionalismus, které jsou důležité pro následnou kapitolu národní identity a konceptu konstrukce národní identity. Teoretická i analytická část je zvolena tak, aby bylo možné odpovědět na základní výzkumné otázky: Jak je v textech kapely Ortel konstruována národní identita? Zda a jak se tvorba kapely Ortel v letech 2007-2015 vyvíjela? V rámci vlastní analýzy jsou popsány diskurzní nástroje, které autor textů využívá.

Abstract:

Master's thesis The construction of national identity in Ortel's texts deals with the construction of a national identity in Ortel's texts released in 2007-2015. The aim of the work is to identify and describe the content of the texts in a critical discourse analysis so that the individual meanings of the texts are deciphered, as well as whether and how the creation of the Ortel band developed. The first part of the thesis deals with selected methodology, critical discourse analysis, including approaches by Ruth Wodak and Teun A. van Dijk, whose texts were the starting point for this work. In the second part are the basic concepts of nation and nationalism, which are important for the subsequent chapter of national identity and the concept of the construction of national identity. The theoretical and analytical part is chosen to answer the basic research questions: How is a national identity constructed in Ortel's texts? Whether and how did Ortel's work are developed in 2007-2015? The discourse tools used by the author of the texts are described in the analysis.
